The Qantas AMEX Ultimate Credit Card

Qantas AMEX ultimate credit card

The Qantas AMEX Ultimate Credit Card is now offering a generous 100,000 Qantas Points instead of 60,000. To earn the bonus points you need to meet the minimum spend of $3,000 in 3 months. The card comes with a $450 annual fee and a $450 travel credit that nicely offsets this! Let’s dive into the details of this card, if you’re looking for the TL;DR, skip down to the summary.

Qantas Points – Sign-up Bonus and earn rate

Receive 100,000 bonus Qantas Points when you spend at least $6,000 on eligible purchases within the first 90 days from card approval.

To be eligible for these bonus points you have to be a new card holder. For AMEX that means you have not held an AMEX credit card in the past 18 months.

The Qantas AMEX Ultimate credit card has an earn rate of

  • 1.25 Qantas Point for every $1 spent on eligible purchases
  • 2.25 Qantas Points for every $1 spent on eligible Qantas products and services
  • 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 on Government transactions

Eligible purchases include most transactions. Exclusions include: fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers and transactions for gambling or gaming.

After earning 100,000 Qantas Points per calendar year the base earn rate drops to 1 Qantas Point for every $1 spend on eligible purchases.

Beyond the high earn rate available with the Qantas AMEX Ultimate Credit Card, it is also one of the few that allows you to earn Qantas Points on Government transactions, so if you have Government payments coming up this may help you squeeze a few extra points out of it!

Fees and Credit Limit

The Qantas AMEX Ultimate credit card has an annual fee of $450. However, it comes with a $450 annual Qantas flight credit that neatly offsets this as long as you are planning to fly with Qantas that calendar year. The interest rate is 23.99% on purchases.

Lounge passes

The Qantas AMEX Ultimate Card comes with two Qantas Lounge passes each membership year. Note: to be eligible you must purchase selected Qantas products and services.

As well as the two Qantas Club invites, the Qantas AMEX Ultimate Card comes with two complimentary passes to the Centurion Lounge, available at Sydney and Melbourne international airports.

Qantas Wine Membership

A premium Qantas Wine membership is normally worth $99 a year, the membership gives you a bonus 3 points per $ spent as well as free delivery on your orders.

Plus, paying for these purchases with this Qantas-branded card will earn you a total of 4.25 points per $ spent on Qantas Wine products (3 points as a Qantas Wine Premium member + 1.25 points for regular spend on this Card).

Insurances and other benefits

The Qantas AMEX Ultimate credit card comes with multiple insurances, as well as other benefits that may be useful.

  • Travel Insurance (PDS)
  • Card purchase cover – you can be reimbursed for up to 90 days from the date of purchase if the eligible item is stolen or accidentally damaged.
