ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card: Review

Elevate Your Travel Experience with the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Credit Card

As a premier credit card, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black is tailored for those who are looking for generous Qantas earn points, a hefty sign up bonus and travel value-added services. This does come with a price as it has a more expensive annual fee than some other options. Let’s dive into the details of this card, if you’re looking for the TL;DR, skip down to the summary.

Qantas Points – Sign-up Bonus and earn rate

If you are looking to quickly build up your points balance credit cards with large sign-up bonuses are one of the first things to look for. The ANZ Frequent Flyer Black comes near the top of the list with a huge 110,000 bonus Qantas Points on offer. To be eligible for these bonus points you have to be a new card holder (you don’t currently hold and haven’t opened or closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or an ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card in the last 12 months.). To earn the bonus points you need to meet the minimum spend requirement of $5,000 in the first three months.

Beyond the generous 110,000 bonus Qantas Points, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black offers an earn rate of

  • 1 Qantas Point for every $1 up to and including $7,500
  • 0.5 Qantas Points for every $1 over $7,500

Per statement period on eligible purchases. Eligible purchases include most transactions. Exclusion include: fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers and transactions for gambling or gaming.

Earning points on (almost) every transaction could bring you closer to booking or upgrading those flights. Or getting a toaster.. But we don’t recommend spending your points on that!

Fees and Credit Limit

Being a premium card with a large sign-up bonus as well as insurances, Qantas Lounge invites and other benefits, it is not surprising that the fee reflects this. The ANZ Frequent Flyer Black has an annual fee of $425. However, you can receive $100 back to your card if you meet the $5,000 minimum spend in the first three months. The interest rate is 20.24% on purchases and the minimum credit limit is $15,000.

Lounge passes and Qantas Club discount

With the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Credit Card, you gain access to two Qantas domestic or Qantas International Business Class airport lounge invites. Relax in comfort, enjoy refreshments with a drink, and catch up on work or leisure in a tranquil setting before your flight.

As well as the lounge passes, if you plan on traveling more regularly, the unique discounted Qantas Club membership might be a nice bonus feature of this card. To receive the discount call  the Qantas Frequent Flyer
Service Centre on 13 11 31 to renew or purchase a new membership.

Insurances and other benefits

There are also many other features of the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black card which may be of benefit depending on your needs.

  • International and Domestic Travel Insurance
  • Other insurances including Rental Vehicle Excess in Australia, Purchase Protection Insurance, and Extended Warranty Insurance (read the PDS for details).
